(Brooklyn, New York) – Asghar Ali, a 58-year-old Pakistani immigrant allegedly tried to mow down Orthodox students and a rabbi outside a Yeshiva in East Flatbush, Brooklyn on Wednesday morning. Ali, who police say has a history of mental illness, yelled out the window of his car “I’m gonna kill all the Jews”, then drove his white Crown Victoria onto the sidewalk veering towards the students.
Fortunately, no one was hurt in the incident. The driver got away at first, but was quickly found by members of the Shomrim Safety Patrol, who swarmed the neighborhood to look for the attacker. He has four prior arrests. Ali was slapped with a dozen charges, including attempted murder as a hate crime, menacing as a hate crime, and first-degree attempted vehicular assault.
