(Freeport, NY) — Neighbors across Nassau County will hold moments of silence on Memorial Day to honor the American soldiers who have died in wars and conflicts. County Executive Bruce Blakeman is encouraging residents to pause at noon and then again at 6 p.m. on Monday, pulling their cars over to the side of the road if it is safe to do so. Nice Bus will stop its service at that time, while every fire house and emergency service vehicle will sound their sirens and horns. Every church in the Diocese of Rockville Centre will also ring their bells.

Blakeman wants residents to think about what Memorial Day means by observing a moment of silence. He says the moments of silence at both noon and 6 p.m. will last for 50 seconds.
