Donald Trump speaks at a rally on the beach in Wildwood, NJ on Saturday, May 11, 2024.
(Wildwood, NJ) – Former President Donald Trump hit the campaign trail this weekend. On Saturday, Trump held a massive rally on the Jersey Shore where he stressed the importance of the upcoming election.
Officials say 100,000 people flocked to the beach to see the former President. Wildwood authorities opened the gates at noon, but they say crowds began forming even before then with some supporters camping out overnight on the boardwalk.
Trump’s campaign was facing some questions over the choice to hold a rally in New Jersey – a typically blue state – versus a battleground state like Pennsylvania or Wisconsin. However at the rally, Trump announced that his campaign was looking to win New Jersey in 2024.
This move is an ambitious effort as the Garden State has consistently voted for the Democratic nominee in each presidential election since 1996.
New Jersey is not the only blue state Trump has mentioned he hopes to flip. A few weeks ago in Manhattan, Trump said he believes he has “a good chance of winning in New York”.
The Empire State might be a tougher victory for the Trump campaign to pursue as New York has not voted red in a presidential race since Ronald Reagan was re-elected in 1984.
