(New York, NY) — Police did battle last night with anti-Israel protesters who were trying to interrupt the Met Gala. There is video of demonstrators punching officers as they tried to make their way to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where the huge celebrity laden fundraiser was taking place. Along the way demonstrators vandalized a World War I memorial in Central Park with pro Gaza graffiti. The sculpture is a memorial to military members who died during World War I. The protesters also burned an American flag.
Mayor Eric Adams had strong words for the protesters after he reviewed police video of the demonstrations. He said the American flag should never be set on fire. He said that’s not who were are and that everyone should respect the flag.
