(New York, NY) — – Former President Donald Trump says he will take take the stand in his criminal “hush money” trial that begins in New York City on Monday. He told reporters on Friday that he wants to tell the truth about what happened.  He is accused of falsifying business records to cover up a payment to porn star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 election. The payments were allegedly made to keep Daniels quiet about an alleged affair she had with Trump.

Trump will become the first former president in American history to stand trial in a criminal case. Jury selection will begin Monday. Trump’s lawyers made repeated attempts to delay the trial until after the presidential election. Those requests were all denied. The former president has denied any wrongdoing. Under New York state law, Trump is required to attend the entire criminal trial in person, which could last as long as eight weeks.
