syndication-the-courier-journal-36

Many businesses are looking for workers -- especially in the fast food industry -- as Now Hiring signs and even billboards can be seen from iPhone snaps around the Louisville and Southern Indiana area. January 12, 2022 Labor Shortage In Louisville Area

(Los Angeles, CA) — Fast food workers in California are getting a huge pay raise beginning today. They will be earning at least 20 dollars an hour, up from 16 dollars an hour.  State lawmakers say the fast food worker wage bill was passed in a bid to bring workers salaries above the California Poverty Measure for a family of four. The law also creates a new fast-food council that can choose to increase the minimum wage each year through 2029. The law was initially supported by the trade association representing fast food franchise owners.

There is a growing list of California fast food restaurants who say they will raise their prices today to help make up for the spike in worker wages. Chipotle, McDonald’s, Starbucks, Jack in the Box and Shake Shack are all planning menu increases. Some owners say they salary increases may force them to shorten hours for some workers, or even lead to layoffs. California lawmakers say they have seen data that shows that fast food workers retain their jobs, even when they saw big raises.
