(Massapequa Park, NY) — Thousands lined up outside a Massapequa Park funeral home Thursday night, to offer their sympathies to the family of NYPD cop Jonathan Diller, who was shot and killed during a traffic stop in Queens on Monday. It was day one of a two wake for the 31-year-old officer. Former President Donald Trump met with Diller’s widow and extended family on Thursday afternoon. Afterwards, Trump said it was a “sad event” and called for law and order in New York City. Governor Hochul is expected to attend the wake today.
The man who allegedly shot and killed Diller has now been charged with murder of a police officer. He’s being held without bail. A GoFundMe page for the officer’s family has raised more than a half of a million dollars. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has told the Diller family that it will pay off their mortgage.
Jonathan Diller’s funeral is Saturday morning at Saint Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church in Massapequa. 50,000 officers from around the nation are expected to attend.
