(New York, NY) — Today is the final day for legal motions in the New York lawsuits against congestion pricing. One suit filed by neighbors on the Lower East Side, argues the 15-dollar congestion toll will create more traffic on the FDR Drive. The suit also claims the MTA is ignoring the environmental impact congestion pricing will have on some neighborhoods that could see an increase in traffic. A federal judge has set an April 3rd court date for arguments from New Jersey officials who are trying to stop the congestion plan.

The MTA is pushing hard to get its congestion pricing plan in place for Manhattan by mid-June. New York City Transit President Richard Davey says that certain vital projects will get pushed back if congestion pricing gets delayed anymore. That includes making stations ADA compliant and modernizing subway signal systems.

The MTA says 95-percent of the tolling infrastructure has been installed and that they’re on track to start charging drivers to enter Manhattan’s busiest streets. MTA Chairman Janno Lieber says he’s confident that the agency will overcome the multiple lawsuits they’re facing. The plan calls for charging cars 15-dollars to travel below 60th Street during peak times, trucks 24 to 36-dollars and motorcycles seven-fifty.
