(New York, NY) — Be ready to be blown around today. Wind gusts could be as high as 60 miles per hour. The high winds have already led to some scattered power outages across the Tri-State area. The utility companies say they have crews at the ready if more lines go down. Drivers say trashcans and tree limbs are blocking some side streets. The MTA Bridges and Tunnels are banning empty tractor-trailers and tandem trucks on their seven bridges through at least 10 tonight. The National Weather Service is warning that homeowners to secure outdoor objects that could blow away. New York City is warning those with balconies to take in items that are not secured.
The brutal winds come after a very soggy weekend. Most of the Tri-State area saw two inches of rain by Sunday morning. The Passaic River in New Jersey is expected to crest this afternoon. The rain over the weekend raised water levels. In Fairfield, neighbors know the drill, move everything to higher ground. The Passaic river has flooded North Jersey towns twice just in the last two months.
