(Patchogue, NY) – It all started because someone wanted to show off the cute doughnuts. A woman recently picked up some doughnuts from Savory Fig — a bakery in Patchogue. They were supposed to be vegan and gluten-free. But an eagle-eye observer noticed something about the doughnuts that made them wonder — specifically, their sprinkles.
The doughnuts from Savory Fig had “D” shaped sprinkles scattered on top. That’s notable because national chain Dunkin’ Donuts uses the same type of sprinkles. So, naturally people started to wonder if Savory Fig had made a Dunkin’ run and passed them off as their own. While that would potentially be false advertising and unethical, it’s also a potential source of danger for customers. The doughnuts at Savory Fig were being sold as vegan and gluten-free — but that wouldn’t be true if they came from Dunkin. The chain uses both wheat and dairy in their doughnuts.
Now, investigators with both the state and county are conducting an official probe.
