(New York, NY) — Expelled Republican New York lawmaker George Santos is running for Congress again. Santos made the surprise announcement during President Biden’s State of the Union address Thursday night, writing on X that he’ll challenge Nick LaLota for his congressional seat on Long Island. He’s switching districts to run against LaLota whom he called a “RINO,” or Republican in Name Only, and has already filed with the FEC. Santos, who was expelled from Congress last December, is facing a September trial if he doesn’t accept a plea deal first on 23 federal charges, including fraud, misusing campaign funds and lying about his finances.
