(New York, NY) — A wealthy Albert Einstein School of Medicine trustee, surprised medical students on Monday by donating one billion dollars to pay their tuition. Dr. Ruth Gottesman says she hopes her huge donation will pay for all Albert Einstein School students for generations to come . Students who were on campus when the 93-year-old made the announcement, say they are floored by Dr. Gottesman’s generosity.  The money she is donating came from her and her late husband’s investment in Berkshire Hathaway.

One student on campus says he immediately called home to tell his father, who is an UBER driver the good news. Other students say Dr. Gottesman will make it so they are debt free when they graduate. Dr. Gottesman says she hopes her donation will attract the best and the brightest to the medical school campus in the Bronx.

Einstein says it has 737 M.D. students, 209 Ph.D. students, 124 students in the combined M.D./Ph.D. program, and 239 postdoctoral research fellows. All those students will now go to classes tuition free.
