American Dream Mall, bomb threat
(East Rutherford, NJ) – Authorities have given the “all clear” at the American Dream Mall in New Jersey’s Meadowlands, after someone called in a bomb threat of some kind. The mall opened its doors at 7:00 AM on this Black Friday, and around 8:30 AM everyone was evacuated “out of an abundance of caution.” By 9:15 AM cell phone alerts were sent out advising people the situation had been resolved and that the mall was reopening.
The American Dream is the second-largest mall in the US. While online shopping has lessened its importance over the past decade or so, Black Friday remains one of the year’s most important days for brick-and-mortar retail stores.
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy posted a message on X explaining the New Jersey State Police were investigating the situation. His statement reads, “American Dream was evacuated this morning following what was later deemed a non-credible threat. This was done out of an abundance of caution, as the safety of our employees and guests is and will always be our priority. The center has already re-opened. We look forward to a joyous and safe holiday season.”
