(New York, NY) — Mayor Adams will host a summit next week on the fentanyl crisis. His office says the two-day meeting will include strategy sessions with elected leaders, public health officials and law enforcement professionals, focused on prevention, and treatment, with the goal of developing a national strategy to combat fentanyl. Fentanyl is now the most common drug involved in overdose deaths in New York City. Drug overdoses killed more than 26-hundred New Yorkers in 2021. That’s a 78-percent increase over 2019. Fentanyl was detected in 80-percent of those deaths.
