(New York, NY) – Two teenagers were injured in what appears to have been shark attacks off Long Island. This happened Monday at Robert Moses State Park, where a 15-year-old girl was bitten while in the water. A few hours later a 15-year-old boy was bitten on the foot, suffering puncture wounds, while he was surfing. The surfer was injured at Kismet Beach. His foot and toes remained intact according to reports.

Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison notes six swimmers were bitten by sharks last summer. Experts say it’s a good idea to alert lifeguards on duty if you see large schools of fish, as they typically attract sharks and larger marine animals. Governor Kathy Hochul has deployed 10 drones this year, following last year’s increased attacks, so as to carry out more frequent shark patrols.
