(Secaucus, NJ) – A New Jersey man kills his fiance’s dog after a 7 hour standoff with the police in Secaucus Saturday night. 911 dispatchers received a call from a woman who said her fiance was making homicidal remarks. Secaucus Police officers immediately responded to the scene at the Harper apartment complex. After police arrived, the man threatened the officers and prohibited them from entering the apartment. Some Harper residents were evacuated from the area and the Hudson County Regional SWAT team arrived at the scene shortly after. After a 7 hour standoff, the SWAT team entered the apartment and brought the man into custody. It was at this moment that the police found out the man had killed his fiance’s dog. He has been charged with Terroristic Threats and is undergoing a mental health evaluation. Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller responded to the incident, “Although I am extremely saddened for the resident for the loss of her dog, I will say that the patience and professionalism of members of the Secaucus Police Department and Hudson County Regional SWAT were the immediate cause that this incident ended with no injury to the subject, police personnel or any civilian.”
