UNDATED – Hurricane season is officially underway with 12 to 17 named storms, five to nine becoming hurricanes.
National weather service Meteorologist Dominic Ramunni says its almost impossible to predict if the tri state area will be the target of any of these storms.
However, he says it only takes one. He tells 77 WABC News to prepare now while its early in the season.

There already is system in the eastern Gulf of Mexico which could become the season’s first hurricane. Hurricane season lasts until the end of November.
