(New York, NY) – Prosecutors say this is a first: Chinese officials allegedly helped set up a fake (or at least illegal) police station in Chinatown, so Chinese dissidents could be spied on. FBI agents arrested 61-year-old “Harry” Lu Jianwang of the Bronx, and 59-year-old Chen Jinping of Manhattan this morning at their homes. The police station allegedly reported back to Chinese officials and worked out a commercial building.

Federal prosecutors in Brooklyn announced the arrests and the results of an investigation. Ten Chinese officials and an employee of a telecommunications company are also being charged. They’re accused of spying on video calls.
