(New York, NY) – A rally is being held this weekend, as dead whales continue to wash up along the shores of New York and New Jersey. Earlier this week a juvenile humpback whale was found dead in Manasquan. Then, on Friday, a dead whale was spotted in Far Rockaway, Queens. That makes it 12 dead whales observed since the start of December.
This weekend’s rally will be held on Sunday at 1:00 PM, in front of Jenkinson’s Aquarium in Point Pleasant. Some environmental advocates are worried that offshore wind projects could be harming the whales somehow. Meanwhile, the NOAA – a federal agency – says there’s no evidence to suggest that’s the case. We covered the story previously on the website, with perspective featured from both sides of the debate.
