(New York, NY) – An incident that occurred over the weekend in Suffolk County is being referred to the state Attorney General’s office, after an 82-year-old woman was mistakenly pronounced dead. It happened on Saturday at a rehab and nursing center in Port Jefferson. The woman was taken to a funeral home in Miller Place around two hours after being pronounced dead, but was then discovered breathing – about half an hour after arriving at the funeral home.
This follows a remarkably similar incident in Iowa at a hospice care facility. In that case a woman was placed in a body bag and was then discovered gasping for air at a funeral home.
