STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (77WABC) — More than 800 passengers were safely evacuated from the Staten Island Ferry following a fire which broke out on board after 5 p.m. on Thursday.
Authorities say at least five people suffered minor injuries. Passengers evacuated to waiting tugboats — which were then brought to Staten Island. The ferry had departed Manhattan bound for Staten Island.
Investigators say the fire started in the engine room. No official word yet on the cause of the fire.
