  2. I remember listening to Imus one morning and his brother Fred said, “You got this guy in the back office, Bernie. Your producer ought to be on the air. He smart and funny and gutsy.”
    The rest is history

Thank you Fred for seeing something in Bernie that we all have enjoyed these many years!

    God Bless Bernie!
May his family find peace and solace in his Name!

  4. What a sad day. My wife and Myself loved Bernie. He was a true man. No Phony talk. Also a gentleman, like a younger brother to me. Even though I never met him. What a smart human being. He never thought he was smart. So Bernie we will miss you. We know how your partner Sid feels. Rest In Peace.

  5. I am so sad, I have been a fan for many years going back to the Imus days. I watched Bernie on Cavuto and O’Reily. He was always smart, and insightful. We have lost one of the best. I tuned in every morning praying to hear Bernie was back, I prayed for Bernie to win this battle. I know he fought to the end. Some days you could feel the pain he was going through in his voice. May God welcome Bernie into haven and may God bring peace too to family and loved ones. RIP I will miss you. 🙏🙏🙏❤️

  10. We lost a clear spoken American. He was direct and made sense in this lost world we are now living in, he will guide us from heaven. My family listened every morning to his common sense. Loss we must now face

  11. Bernard McGuirk will be truly missed. His Irish wit and wisdom warmed the mornings, his friendship with Sid was evident and true. What a team they had become! When I heard the news of his passing , tears filled my eyes. I felt the loss of a friend I’ve never met but could relate to. When Sid phoned in his words again brought tears . Then after composing myself , I said a prayer and went into my office to see my patients. RIP Bernie. My heartfelt prayers and condolences to Carol, Melanie and Brendan.

  12. Only Bernie could handle Imus. Whenever Imus gave him an order, he said" Right Chief", Imus would say "Bernard, I"m Serious". I don’t think Bernie ever took him seriously; that’s how he survived all those wonderful years with Imus. Great Memories, Thanks, Bob Phildius Deer Park L.I.a fan for more than 30 years. God speed!

  13. Bernard McGuirk was a typical first-generation Irish-American—fortunate enough to have a foot in both worlds, and as a result had an appreciation of “the old country” and a respect for the new. Raised in the South Bronx projects, educated in the Catholic schools, he could whimsically imitate the Cardinal while keeping the faith. Well-read, intelligent, witty, loved by friends and radio listeners alike. My sympathies go out to his wife, Carol, his children, and his father.
“But since it fell into my lot, That I should rise and you should not. I’ll gently rise and softly call, Good night and joy be to you all. So fill to me the parting glass, and drink a health what e’er befalls. Then gently rise and softly call, Good night and joy be to you all”.

  14. Bernie was a great man and a legend. As a devoted listener, I am devastated. Prays for Bernie and his family. He will be missed.

  15. I am so sad to hear of this tragic news. I did four tours in Afghanistan during the worst of times to include our final departure in August 2021 my colleagues and I would tune into Bernie and Sid for the replays and it served to brighten our day during periods of the darkest of despair.

Before 2018, when Bernie was with Don Imus whom I knew, and I was on my second tour – the “Cardinal” would remind me how important it was to remember how God always will stay by my side, even if my faith was lost in fog of war.

I feel so badly for Sid his partner: all I can say my friend is that you serve as a beacon of hope to all of us in the recovery life – who look to you for inspiration and find it every morning.

I am still active in DoD/IC, and I can’t tell you how many soldiers and supporters listen to the morning show each morning before work because you both represent for us “the real” and “the genuine”.

For Bernie, he taught me this saying “We are who we are- and we ain’t who we are ain’t”. He was the real deal and never was “an ain’t”

God bless you always all the dearly departed.

  16. My morning coffee will never be the same.
    Thanks for the hilarity.
    Thanks for being real.
    Thanks for being
    You !

    Rest now.

  17. Call me heartless, but I wasn’t even this broken up when my father passed away (a tough history lesson). But I am now. I wasn’t always with Bernie when I believed his judgement was clouded by his sometimes ultra-conservatism but he always supported his position with facts. Bernie and Sid were such a great team because they balanced each other out and, for the most part, kept each other honest. I really wasn’t a listener at first (afternoon show) but when they went to mornings, I listened and I was truly able to come onboard. Enough pontification! I, along with THOUSANDS of others will miss Bernie dearly. My condolences to Carol and his kids, the WABC Radio Family and all of New York for this terrible loss.

  18. There are no words for the legacy Bernie has left on the whole WABC listening audience and others. Although there will be an emptiness in the morning show, his shining personality will live on in our hearts for years to come.

  19. My heart is broken at the loss of Bernie. He is silenced forever. May God’s healing love envelop his family at this difficult time. May the angels lead Bernie to Paradise.

  20. So sad this day has come. My husband and I moved to NY from GA, and learned so much about the state, it’s politics, who to vote for, etc, from the greatest two, Bernie and Sid. My first half hour of every morning was a cup of coffee and these guys! Funny or serious, I found their views always spot on. Thanks for the memories Bernie, my coffee was a little bitter this morning. Our very best to your family, may you Rest In Peace.

  21. I am a long time fan of the Late Great Bernard Mcguirk.I met him and Sid at a Hooters luncheon years ago.The man was down to earth easy to talk to, and very Congenial.

  25. Bernie was a tremendous talent, both with Imus and I his own right. He was funny, smart, witty, blunt, honest, and brilliant; adjectives not used lightly but certainly not enough to convey his presence and command. He will be missed.

  26. I got chills this morning when I heard of Bernie’s passing. As a loyal listener over the years he gave me many laughs. My favorite was Bernie, as the cardinal on the old Imus in the morning show. 29. Wow! I am in utter shock over this news. I just assumed if anyone was going to beat this, it was going to be Bernie. He will be sadly missed by many but most of all his family. My sincere condolences to them.
Whether with Imus or with his post Imus show, He always made the drive into work much more tolerable. Morning radio will truly not be the same. His humor his insights and his takes on things cannot be replaced. May you be at peace Bernie.

  30. I started listening to Imus years ago and always looked forward to Bernie’s input on the show every day. 35. Omg, the most horrible news to wake up to. Bernie and Sid made my morning commute tolerable since the beginning. What chemistry they had ! Bernie was funny, intelligent and kind. That always came through. God bless his family.
Sid I can’t imagine how much you must be hurting, but you have done an incredible job without him. He will always be with you, by your side egging you on. Keep making him proud.
    God Speed Bernard McGuirk

  36. Thank you for making NY morning radio worth listening to again. I, as well as many others, will miss the dynamic team of Bernie & Sid. RIP.

  37. What a loss to lose Bernie. He was a low key, modest, intelligent man and I enjoy listening to WABC every morning. I will miss Beat Bernie and just the banter back and forth Sid and Bernie had, they complimented each other.

My condolences to all who loved him.

  38. Deepest condoelences to Bernie’s family.
It is a tremendous loss as well for the entire WABC family and FANS.
But, we’re all the better for his voice, intellect, contributions and accomplishments.
Sid, we need you more than ever and we all got your back.
In Bernie’s honor, the show must continue as Bernie & Sid.

    Love you Bernie & Sid

  39. Bernie made me laugh so many times with Imus and Sid . A great guy , sensible man and terrible loss . He had such a quick comedic reaction and mind . Loved some of his character voices.

  40. I didn’t expect to hear about Bernie this morning. It was a shock. My condolences go out to Bernie’s family, friends and all the listeners. He will be sorely missed, and it will be difficult to fill his shoes.
You can replace the man, but you can’t replace Bernie.

Sending condolences to his family as well as his partner Sid. A tremendous loss for all of his listeners, may his memory remain a blessing🙏🏻

  42. My condolences to the McGuirk family. I listened to him on occasion. I enjoyed his storytelling and the "Beat Bernie" contests. My he rest in peace.

  43. Bernard once told a joke on-air – a quick “throwaway” line at the end of a segment about five years ago – that had me chuckling to myself for days. It just so happened to coincide with a very difficult time in my life, and it really helped me through. That’s the effect he had on his listeners, and I’ll never forget it.

I feel terrible for what he had to go through these last few months. He was obviously in severe pain but fought like hell. We’d expect nothing less from our Bernie. My condolences to his family and his radio family.

  44. Imus has been saving a spot for you up there. Our hearts go out to your family.
John Cardinal O’Connor and Edward Cardinal Egan need some good yuks again.
