The Denver Broncos have placed safety Justin Simmons on injured reserve with a quad injury. Simmons is likely to miss “a few weeks,” and the team is hoping he can return shortly after the mandated four-game stay on IR.
Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett said Wednesday that Simmons suffered the injury late in Denver’s loss to the Seahawks. Despite the injury, Simmons played 100 percent of the defensive snaps Monday night and had a team-high nine tackles and a fumble recovery in the loss.
Simmons, who earned second-team All-Pro honors in 2021, has not missed a game since Week 17 of the 2017 season, tallying 66 straight starts. From 2018 to 2020, he played every single defensive snap. Last season, he played 99 percent of the snaps.
