NEW YORK (77WABC) — High gas prices will translate into big increases in heating costs this winter.
Consumers can expect 30% increases or more as the five-month home heating season begins in November. The National Grid says it expects New York City customers will pay 28% more—about $306, and Long Islanders will pay 29% more.
That means, on average, your bill can be about $1,300.
The price increases are due to the higher wholesale gas prices. Increases are blamed on the war between Russia and Ukraine and, higher delivery costs.
National Grid has numerous assistance programs for customers who need help paying their bills as well as energy-saving tips. You can find that information on nationalgridus.com.
