NEW YORK (77WABC) — The wife of an off-duty NYPD cop hospitalized with a fractured skull following an unprovoked attack in the Bronx Tuesday is pleading with authorities to “punish” those involved — and ensure they aren’t released on bail.
The woman’s husband — 48-year-old officer Muhammed Chowdhury — remains hospitalized at Jacobi Medical Center after being jumped from behind while jogging beaten and robbed.
“You cannot let these men out the same day that they are arrested,” his wife —Nadira Sherin — told The New York Post. “Punish them,” she added. “If they release them the same day, that is not justice for my husband.”
Sherin told Mayor Eric Adams and Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark during their visit with Chowhurdy at Jacobi late Tuesday that she wants her husband’s attackers caught and held, pending trial. Police said the cop’s mugging matched a pattern of 19 robberies in the city since August 1.
