NEW YORK, NEW YORK -(77WABC)- The Department of health announcing two human cases of West Nile Virus have been reported, infecting one person in Brooklyn and one person Queens.
Health officials say over one thousand West Nile virus-infected mosquito pools have been found across the city– the highest number ever recorded. Usually its about 800 mosquito pools detected at this time last year.
They say Mosquitoes infected with the virus are seen in the city from July through October, with peak activity during August and September.
Most people infected with West Nile virus have no symptoms at all or develop fever and other symptoms including headache, fever, muscle aches, and extreme fatigue.
Health officials say to remove any standing water –where mosquitoes are likely to lay eggs.
