NYC Launches Taxi Medallion Relief Fund in New York, US – 09 Mar 2021
NEW YORK (77WABC) — The New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers is offering a $15,000 reward for information leading to the arrests of the suspects wanted in the killing of a yellow cab driver in Queens.
Kutin Gyimah of the Bronx was knocked to the ground near Beach 54th in the Rockaways, fatally hitting his head, as he chased a group of fare beaters.
Fernando Mateo, the spokesman for the Federation, also said in a statement they would be covering all of the victim’s funeral expenses along with the owners of Big Apple Taxi Fleet Management, where Gyimah worked.
“Probably was the first fare of his day. It was probably the first person that he picked up and guess what—it was the last person that he picked up,” Mateo said at a press conference. “Because his life was taken away. For what? For money?”
Gyimah died at a hospital. He was a father of four.
