NEW YORK, NEW YORK -(77 WABC)- Congestion pricing in New York City is moving closer to reality. The MTA coming to an agreement with the feds in putting a plan in place. Drivers would be charged a fee when entering Manhattan below 60th street. MTA chairman and CEO Janno Lieber says five members have been appointed to a traffic mobility review board which will recommend price for tolls, as well as any discounts and exemptions for its congestion pricing plan.
The board will recommend toll rates that takes into consideration conditions such as traffic patterns, public safety, and off-peak rates.
Public hearings are set to begin next month.
