NEW YORK, NEW YORK, -(77WABC)- The MTA expected to vote Wednesday on expanding cell phone service for straphangers in subway tunnels –including installing free Wi-fi at above ground stations. The Patch reporting the project will require hundreds of miles of fiber optic cable running along tracks in order to provide cell service
Transit Wireless is the company behind the project at no cost to the cash strapped MTA.
The company will require $600 million dollar in private capital. The MTA will reportedly share revenue with Transit Wireless.
