Intern Dean Pavlou – How The Mets Can Replace Scherzer For Now

charles-leclaire-usa-today-sports-8

Although the Mets won yesterdays game, Max Scherzer exited the game after 5 and 2/3 innings pitched. Scherzer called for the trainers to come out after feeling something in his oblique. With Scherzer going for an mri today, everyone was hoping for the best and that he wouldn’t be out for long. Unfortunately for Scherzer and the Mets the mri showed that Scherzer has a high oblique strain and that he will most likely be out for six to eight weeks. Scherzer joins Jacob deGrom and Tylor Megill on the injured list. I’m interested to see where the Mets go from here, and if they will call someone up within the organization like left-handed pitcher Thomas Szapucki, or if they will trade for a pitcher like right-handed pitcher Tyler Mahle from the Reds, Kyle Hendricks of the Cubs or Nick Pivetta who has pitched well for the Red Sox.

I hope the Mets continue to play well in Scherzer’s absence and continue to show why they’re different team this year than in past years, but they must find answers to all of the injuries they’re facing to their pitchers.
