NEW YORK -(77WABC)- Kelsie Whitmore and the Staten Island FerryHawks making history. The major league affiliated team signing the native Californian to a contract as a pitcher and utility player, making her one of the first women to sign a professional baseball contract.
Whitmore grew up in California, and has been playing baseball since she was a child.
The teams website says “Kelsie has played with Team USA National Women’s Baseball and spent time in the Pacific Association of Professional Baseball. Kelsie proved that she could handle higher levels of pitching and competitively navigate a line-up of professional hitters.”
The 23 year old takes the field in spring training on Monday.
