NEW YORK, NEW YORK -(77WABC)- Mayor Adams and JetBlue announced Monday that the carrier will add 5,000 thousand jobs in all sections of its operations in New York this year, as U.S. carriers ramp up their hiring plans amid a rebound in travel. In January, American Airlines said it planned to hire another 18,000 employees. Delta Air Lines also early this said it planned to hire 3,000 to 5,000 people this year
The new hires represent a significant corporate recommitment to the Big Apple and come as Adams struggles to revive a tourism industry laid low by the COVID pandemic.
The mayor and several other top officials were at JFK Airport in Queens Monday morning to announce a recruitment drive attended by approximately 1,000 applicants for the new jobs.
JetBlue CEO Robin Hayes said that starting this summer, the airline would increase the number of flights into and out of New York from 200 to 300 a day.
