Blinken: Credible Reports of War Crimes by Russia in Ukraine

MOLDOVA (77WABC) — United States Secretary of State appeared on CNN’s State of the Union with Jake Tapper from Moldova on Sunday, confirming that there are credible reports of deliberate attacks by Russia on Ukrainian civilians.

“What we’re doing right now is documenting all of this, putting it all together, looking at it, and making sure that as people and the appropriate organizations and institutions investigate whether war crimes have been or are being committed, that we can support whatever they’re doing,” Blinken said. “They’re very credible. And we’re documenting everything.”

Today marks the 12th day of Russia’s war on Ukraine. Last week, the International Criminal Court said it has launched an investigation into allegations of war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide by Russia against Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin initially said that his invasion of Ukraine would not target any civilians. However Russian forces have hit multiple towns and cities, hospitals, apartment buildings and an orphanage.

Russian troops failed to uphold the second phase of the second planned ceasefire in Mariupol, instead doing heavy shelling as civilians attempted to evacuate.
