Going into yesterday’s National championship game the Georgia Bulldogs came in as 2.5 point favorites over Alabama. Going into the game Alabama was missing one of their best receivers in John Metchie who finished the year with 96 receptions, 1,142 yards and 8 receiving touchdowns. This was a huge blow for Alabama. During the game Alabama’s other top receiver Jameson Williams who is a potential top ten pick in this year’s draft hurt his leg after making a catch. After hurting his leg Williams was ruled out for the rest of the game. Bryce Young went 35 of 57 with 369 yards passing, one touchdown and two interceptions, but was dealt a really tough hand with all of the injuries to his star receivers.
For Georgia their defense stepped up big time all lead by potential top ten pick Nakobe Dean. Dean had 4 total tackles, with two of them being solo, and had one pass deflection. He is a big reason why Georgia was the best defense in the nation because of not only his play, but his great leadership as well. A couple of other defensive players who stepped up in a huge way in the National championship were linebacker Quay Walker, who had 8 tackles with 7 of them being solo, and one tackle for loss. Jordan Davis who is a monster on Georgia’s defensive line and is great at stopping the run, and Kelee Ringo who sealed the game for Georgia with a huge pick six added to the defensive onslaught. Georgia Quarterback Stetson Bennett stepped up in a big way in this game especially in the fourth quarter when he lead the Bulldogs to two touchdown scoring drives. Bennett went 17 of 26 for 224 yards, 2 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. A couple of other offensive players who helped Georgia take down Alabama were running backs Zamir White who ran for 84 yards and 1 touchdown on 13 carries, and James Cook who ran for 77 yards on 6 carries including a big 67 yard run. Wide Receiver Adonai Mitchell and Tight End Brock Bowers both caught touchdown passes which helped propel Georgia to a 33-18 win over the Crimson Tide. Kirby Smart deserves a lot of credit for the job he did with this team and by leading them to their first National Championship in 41 years.
