NEW YORK, NEW YORK -(77WABC)- Hospitals in the New York tri state area are running out of a crucial antibody, in helping to treat patients at high risk of becoming severely ill with COVID.
Monoclonal antibodies are artificially made proteins that mimic the make up of the immune system, in stopping the virus from entering healthy cells.
NBC News reporting New York University and Valley Health System in Northern New Jersey, will not offer the treatments until they receive more shipments from state and federal health agencies.
Mount Sinai Health System in New York, said it would stop offering the antibodies in its emergency departments.
Health officials don’t know when they expect to be resupplied.
