CHICAGO, ILLINOIS -(77WABC)-Jussie Smollett was convicted Thursday of staging an anti gay crime in Chicago in 2019, and lying to police about it.
The former Empire actor claims he was beat up, and had a noose tied around his neck, and was covered with bleach.
Smollett took the stand and testified that he never lied to police, and denied making up the attack. Prosecutors say Smollett made up the story in order to attract media sympathy.
Smollett could get up to three years in prison, and slapped with a 25 thousand dollar fine.
He’s expected to appeal.
