man-bridge
New York, NY (77WABC)-A-37-year-old painter fell to his death from the Manhattan Bridge Wednesday afternoon around 2 pm. A second 55-year-old worker was injured in the fall and taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition.
Police say the two workers were harnessed, but they were switching locations when it’s believed a strong wind gust occurred possibly causing them to fall.
The name of the painter killed has not been released. He worked for Champion Specialty Services, the DOT’s contractor for the bridge.
The man landed on the ground near the FDR Drive in lower Manhattan, where he was pronounced dead.
Details including the man’s name were not immediately released.
Trains on the B/D/N/Q/W lines were all delayed or rerouted while police investigated.
