NEW YORK (77WABC) — The 2021 Holiday Christmas Tree has arrived at Rockefeller Center. This year marks the first time the tree comes from Maryland. Usually, the trees hail from New Jersey or Pennsylvania.

The 79-foot Norway spruce wasn’t given up so easily. The Price family, who donated the tree, did not want to part with their beloved Spruce at first. The tree is said to be over 80 years old.

The 12-ton tree will be adorned with over 50,000 lights and the star on top will have 3 million Swarovski crystals weighing about 900 pounds.

Last year, because of the pandemic, there was no public access to the Rockefeller Christmas tree. This year the tree will be lit on December 1st and on display until January 16, 2022. How the public will be able to access it, will be determined soon.
