(SILVER SPRING, MARYLAND) (77 WABC) — You may able to hold off on buying that extra heavy coat this winter.

The National Weather service has come out with its long range winter forecast for the Northeast which has temperatures running above normal.

Forecasters say we’re likely headed for a La Nina year meaning as  far as snow, forecasters say it could be a sloppy mess of rain and snow in the Northeast corridors.

It will also be warmer in the mid west, with the South likely to be drier than usual.
