New York, NY(77WABC)- A federal appeals court has reinstated a Texas law that bans abortions after a fetal heartbeat has been detected.
The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals reinstated the law Friday after U.S. District Judge Robert Pitman granted a temporary restraining order on Wednesday. The law, signed by Texas Governor Greg Abbott in May, prohibits abortions once a heartbeat can be detected, typically around six weeks into pregnancy.
The request was filed by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who claimed in a tweet that he will “fight federal overreach at every turn.”
Great news tonight, The Fifth Circuit has granted an administrative stay on #SB8. I will fight federal overreach at every turn. https://t.co/Mrfj3lt2ix
