border-crisis
DEL RIO, TEXAS (77WABC) – As more than ten thousand, mostly Haitian young men, shelter under the International Bridge in Del Rio, Texas, U.S. officials say they plan to ramp up deportation flights to Haiti.
Next week, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is planning to fly eight deportation flights to Haiti and then will increase that number to about ten per week. A single flight can hold around 135 migrants. The Biden had paused the deportation flights to Haiti in response to an earthquake that devastate Haiti on August 14th.
As of Wednesday, the number of migrants under the bridge was around four thousand. By the next day, it doubled. By Friday, the number has swelled to over ten thousand.
Drone footage shot by Fox News showed the staggering number of migrants waiting to encounter border control. Last August alone, the number of border control apprehensions hit an all-time record of more than two hundred thousand, a more than 300% increase from the same time last year.
Fox News announced Thursday night that the FAA had grounded their drone citing security reasons. A Fox News crew then went up by helicopter, courtesy of law enforcement officials, over the Del Rio area. The mayor of Del Rio says that sources in Mexico tell him that more than twenty thousand migrants are on their way.
Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Tex., criticized the Biden administration for its decision to stop Haitian deportation flights, saying it was drawing more people to Del Rio. The Texas Congressman also visited the area to see the staggering amount of people for himself.
Illegal aliens continue to flood across the border. Over 8,000 were under the Del Rio International Bridge as of this morning!
