News: Biden Afghanistan Address
New York City, NY (77 WABC) — President Joe Biden is set to head to Queens, New York and Manville, New Jersey on Tuesday to view the damage and devastation left behind by the remnants of Hurricane Ida.
Biden recently inspected the destruction left in Louisiana where Ida caused power outages, flooding, scattered debris, and damaged homes and property.
Ida’s heavy rain and flooding impacted the tri-state area. In New York City, 13 people died from the storm with most of these victims losing their lives in basement apartments that were overcome with ample amounts of water.
To better prepare for a future storm, Mayor De Blasio has announced a new task force which includes evacuations, travel bans, among other preparations.
27 deaths were reported in New Jersey and a few individuals are still missing.
“To everyone who is still in harm’s way and for all those struggling to deal with the aftermath of the storms and fires, keep the faith,” Biden said in a tweet. “We’re going to stand with you for as long as it takes to recover and rebuild.”
