Embattled NY Gov. Cuomo’s Top Aide Melissa DeRosa Resigns

Melissa DeRosa, Secretary to Gov. Andrew Cuomo in Rochester, NY Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2020.  E Metro.

Albany, N.Y. (AP) — As New York Governor Andrew Cuomo faces a NY State Attorney General report finding he sexually harassed 11 women, the Governor’s top aide Melissa DeRosa has announced her resignation.

DeRosa issued a statement to news organizations Sunday night. She joined Cuomo’s administration in 2013, eventually becoming one of the governor’s most trusted confidantes.

The 38-year-old became Cuomo’s top aide in 2017.

DeRosa said in her statement “the past two years have been emotionally and mentally trying.”

Cuomo has denied that he ever touched anyone inappropriately, but he acknowledged hugging and kissing aides and other individuals.

The NY State Assembly is nearing completion of its impeachment probe into Cuomo. The Governors lawyers have been given until the end of this week to submit additional materials related to the probe.
