A Mega Concert Planned in Central Park in August to Celebrate NYC’s Re-Opening from Covid19 Shutdowns

Record Producer Clive Davis after paying his final respects to Aretha Franklin in Detroit, on Friday, Aug. 31, 2018.

New York, NY (77WABC)-To celebrate New York City’s re-opening as the Covid19 viral pandemic wanes, NYC Mayor Bill DeBlasio announced this morning that a free Mega Concert is planned for NYC’s Central Park this summer.

DeBlasio said 60,000 people will be allowed to attend the mega concert and that it will be televised worldwide.

The Mayor said 70% of tickets will go to people vaccinated for Covid19. Unvaccinated persons will be put in a separate section. There will be limited VIP seating.

The Mayor said music producer Clive Davis, originally from Brooklyn, has agreed to organize the three-hour show.  DeBlasio said the actual idea for the concert came from famed restauranteur Danny Meyer, who’s head of the NYC Economic Development Corporation.

You can listen to the Mayor’s announcement during his morning briefing below:

The Mayor wants the timing of the concert to coincide with “Homecoming Week” in New York City.

“So in August get ready for an unforgettable week, a once in a lifetime concert, and a moment that says New York City is back,” said DeBlasio.

The announcement comes as NYC hit yet another record in its seven-day rolling average for cases of Covid19 at 0.71%.
