Brooklyn, NY (77WABC)-A 70-year-old male pedestrian was pronounced dead at Brooklyn Hospital late last night after being struck by a dark-colored sedan that fled the scene of the crash on Atlantic Avenue.
Police this morning identified the pedestrian killed as Leonard Mitchell of 510 Atlantic Avenue Room 516. He was struck at 10:55 Monday night in front of 494 Atlantic Avenue. Following a 911 call, police from Brooklyn’s 84th Precinct, found the man lying in the roadway unconscious and unresponsive. EMS transported Mitchell to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The 84th Precinct tweeted last night about the resulting traffic impact caused by the investigation into the deadly hit and run:

The NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined the male was attempting to cross Atlantic Avenue, between 3rd Avenue and Nevins Street, when he was struck by a dark-colored sedan that was traveling eastbound. The vehicle fled the scene.
There are no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing.
