CARTERS-AND-BIDEN
PLAINS, GEORGIA (77WABC) – Are our eyes deceiving us? Are the Bidens and Carters indoors, mask-less, and somehow the Carters have been shrunken or the Bidens become giants?
The Carter Centre released this photo of President Biden and his wife Dr. Jill Biden visiting long time friends, former President Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn.
The photo quickly went viral on Twitter became the Carters seemed to have been transported to a dollhouse. Also confusing many is everyone in the photo is not wearing a mask. The Bidens and the Carters are following CDC guidelines which state that you can be around other people from a different household without a mask if everyone is fully vaccinated — which in this case, they all are.
As for the Bidens’ sudden growth spurt, it appears the photo was taken with a wide angle lens and perhaps a special flash.
Although President Biden is kneeling much farther in front of Rosalynn Carter, the flash reduces shadows, a key part of what allows objects to have depth. The resulting effect is that Biden and Rosalynn Carter appear to be side-by-side on the same plane.
This illusion is magnified by the fact that the photographer probably used a very wide angle lens, which helps to capture everything in the frame from within a tight space. Also both Carters have slim builds.
