New York, NY (77WABC)-Republican Congressman Lee Zeldin of Suffolk County has announced he is running for the GOP nomination for Governor of NY. His announcement comes as (D) NY Governor Andrew Cuomo is the subject of several investigations and scandals.

Cuomo is under investigation by the NY State Attorney General’s Office regarding claims of sexual harassment from several women. The FBI and Brooklyn Prosecutors are investigating whether the Cuomo administration allegedly withheld nursing home death totals related to Covid-19. Gov. Cuomo has repeatedly denied sexual harassment claims and said that NY State followed CDC guidelines related to Covid-19.

Zeldin joined Bernie & Sid on 77 WABC Thursday morning to discuss his intention to run for Governor.

The Gov. has not announced plans to seek a fourth term in office.

Cong.  Zeldin graduated from William Floyd High School in Mastic Beach and from the State University of New York at Albany (SUNY) and then Albany Law School, becoming New York’s youngest attorney at the time at the age of 23.

In 2008, Congressman Zeldin opened a successful law practice in Smithtown, New York, which he operated full time until he was elected to the New York State Senate in 2010, representing New York’s 3rd Senate District.

In 2014, following four years in the State Senate, Congressman Zeldin was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, representing New York’s First Congressional District.

Congressman Zeldin resides in his hometown of Shirley with his wife, Diana, and their twin daughters, Mikayla and Arianna.
