Man who Murdered His Mother Arrested In Mondays Brutal Attack Of A 65-Year-Old Asian Woman

NEW YORK (77WABC) – A man on lifetime parole, after being convicted of murdering his own mother in 2002, was arrested early this morning in connection with the brutal attack against a 65-year-old Asian American woman walking to church.

The NYPD says Brandon Elliott, 38-years-old of 326 West 40th St. was arrested at 1:10 am Wednesday. He is charged with Attempted Assault as a Hate Crime,  two counts of Assault as a Hate Crime, Assault and Attempted Assault.

The attack happened Monday in Hell’s kitchen in front of a luxury building at 360 43rd Street near 9th Avenue just before noon.  The video has now made national as well as international headlines due its sheer and senseless brutality.

The building’s management says two security guards were suspended after they were seen on surveillance video doing nothing to help the woman and locking the door of the building as the woman was beaten and kicked and even after the assailant walked away.

Police say Elliott punched and kicked the victim about the body, causing her to fall to the ground, and made anti-Asian statements toward her. The individual then proceeded to kick the victim multiple times in the head before casually walking away. The suspect was captured on surveillance:

The victim suffered a broken pelvis and other injuries in the vicious attack.   The woman, whose name has not been released, on her way to attend mass when the attack occurred.

The NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force Investigated the incident. Officers handed out fliers in the Hells Kitchen area where the attack occurred.

There have been 33 reported attacks against Asian Americans in NYC to date.

A rally was held Tuesday afternoon outside of the 43rd St. building where the attack occurred. A host of officials condemned the anti-Asian violence including Congressman Jerry Nadler. He called for a stop to all hate crimes and called on all New Yorkers to safely take action if they witness violence.
