(New York, NY/77WABC)-Two days after supporters of re-opening gyms to fitness classes rallied outside of NYC Hall, NY Gov. Cuomo announced fitness classes can resume effective Monday, March 22nd at 33% capacity limits. Social distancing guidelines include masks, social distancing, and equipment cleaning. Inspections will take place by local health departments before or within 2 weeks of the fitness center opening to ensure compliance with Covid-19 guidelines.
In addition, the Governor also announced that the state’s Covid-19 hotspot or “cluster” areas, where additional Covid-19 restrictions were put in place due to increases in cases of the Coronavirus, will be lifted on March 22nd. Such cluster zones remained in sections of the Bronx, Manhattan, Newburgh, New Windsor, and Queens NY.
Beginning April 5th, the 11 p.m. curfew currently in place for casinos, movie theaters, bowling alleys, billiards halls, gyms, and fitness centers will be lifted. The 11 p.m. curfew for food and beverage establishments and the 12 a.m. curfew for catered events will remain in effect. Both curfews will be evaluated in late-April.
“New York is moving forward with reopening our economy and looking forward to a post-COVID world,” Gov. Cuomo said. “We know the vaccine is the weapon that defeats this invisible enemy and we are getting more shots in arms than ever before. As we re-open and an increasing number of New Yorkers receive their vaccines, it is more important than ever to continue the practices we know to stop the spread of COVID-19. I encourage New Yorkers to continue to wear their masks, practice social distancing and wash their hands. We are reaching the light at the end of the tunnel and if we stay New York Tough, we will get there together.”
Restaurants in NYC will be allowed to increase indoor dining capacity from 35 to 50% as of this Friday. Outside of NYC, restaurants will be allowed to increase capacity to 75%.
The easing of some Covid-19 comes as the Governor also announced that more than 7 million Covid-19 vaccinations have been administered across the state.
