Bullet proof vest cop shot
(Brooklyn, NY/77WABC)-Two NYPD officers were shot as they responded to a 9-1-1 call in Brooklyn Sunday night from a man barricaded in a closet after being shot by his roommate.
Police say, officers, assigned to the 71st precinct, were ascending stairs on Hawthrone St. in the Prospect Lefferts Garden Section when the gunman stepped out of his apartment and opened fire. Officers return fire.
One officer was shot in his chest and saved by the bulletproof he was wearing, the second officer was grazed in the leg. Both officers were taken to Kings County Hospital. They are expected to recover.
Police took the gunmen into custody following a brief standoff. The 44-year-old suspect was taken into custody. He was taken to a hospital for an evaluation. Charges are pending.
The gunman’s 45-year-old roommate who was shot in both legs was taken to Kings County Hospital and is reported in stable condition.
The names of the officers and the armed suspect and his roommate have not yet been released.
Police say two weapons were recovered at the scene.
